DANS LA NUIT
Courant 2026
Our approach to this ciné-concert is to see the music as a committed stakeholder, a partner on an equal footing with the film. Music as subtext, a non-verbal language that evokes feelings, insinuates confusion, suggests what’s coming next, reinforces the drama. Music in a reinforced, probing role, the antithesis of illustration.
With a gap of almost a century, our intention is to make this ciné-concert an entity fused with Vanel’s work, in which images and music complement and enrich each other, so as to bring out the best in each other to perpetuate the relevance of this masterpiece of silent cinema, and also to make this moment a discovery of today’s creative music.
Following its opus on the texts of Japanese writer Haruki Murakami, La Forge and its new ensemble, Le CLOU, are pursuing their project of marrying different modes of expression, leading audiences to discover a show and music where writing and improvisation are intimately intertwined.
The world of the working class and the film’s quasi-operatic dramaturgy call for a varied musical style that is at once poetic, dense and energetic.
The score, written by several hands, will reflect the sensibilities and influences of each of the performers, all of whom will use their experience as improvisers and composers to shed new light on this long-forgotten masterpiece.
